Silliker History

When the Silliker Corporation was founded in 1967 by John H. Silliker, Ph.D., the field of food testing and safety was in its infancy.  With just a small staff of four professionals and a temperamental sterilizer, Dr. Silliker, who was a renowned microbiologist, sought to take the practice of food testing to a new level. He had a practical philosophy: “give the clients more than just analytical results; give them practical solutions to their problems.” Dr. Damien Gabis succeeded Silliker as CEO and President, followed by Dr. Russell Flowers in 1990.  Drs. Silliker and Gabis have continued to serve as valued members of the Silliker organization as advisors, speakers and consultants.  For over 35 years these individuals have embraced this simple philosophy and maintained the company’s strong service commitment to the food industry.

Today, Silliker Group Corporation is the leading internationally accredited food testing and consulting network. It is comprised of over 48 locations in 13 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Spain, and the United States.

With laboratories meeting and exceeding ISO 17025 requirements, Silliker is the leading international network of accredited food testing and consulting laboratories. As a result, we consistently beat the competition in industry wide proficiency studies. Silliker operating excellence is the primary reason why 20 of the top 25 food producers in the U.S. use Silliker to support their food safety and quality programs.
